Places to Visit in "Daman"

Daman and Diu, a union territory in western India, comprise two separate areas divided by the Arabian Sea. The coastal town of Daman is traversed by the Daman Ganga River. Diu consists of a small island and a mainland village. To visit Daman, you have three options for transportation:

By Train: The nearest railway station is Vapi. From there, you can hire an auto-rickshaw or share a cab to reach Daman.

By Bus: Buses from all major cities can be booked online to reach Daman.

By Private Vehicle: If you prefer, you can also travel by your own private vehicle.

If you opt for public transport, you can rent a bike or an auto for a full day of sightseeing.

Places to Visit in Daman

1. Moti Daman Fort

The largest fort, covering an area of 30,000 sq. mtr., has two large gates for entry and exit. Inside, there are various points of interest to explore.

2. Dominican Monastery

Located within Moti Daman Fort, this monastery was founded by Portuguese settlers who came for religious purposes. Despite being largely destroyed by an earthquake, it remains one of the most visited places in Daman, often frequented by couples for pre-wedding shoots.

3. Old Church

Situated inside Moti Mahal Fort, also known as the Church of Holy Jesus, this church was built 450 years ago and boasts exquisite architecture. The main gate is adorned with wooden carvings, and the interior follows a Roman style.

4. Moti Daman Beach

Just a 5-minute drive from Moti Daman Fort, this beach is popular in the evenings. While swimming isn't advisable due to safety reasons, there are numerous water sports activities available.

5. Jampore Beach

Accessible via a scenic route, Jampore Beach offers swimming opportunities. It's one of the liveliest beaches in Daman, providing amenities like water sports, camel and horse rides, as well as ATV rides. Roadside parking is available, and there's a wide range of food options to explore.

6. Nani Daman Fort

To reach Nani Daman Fort, you'll need to cross the Daman Ganga River and head to the other side of Daman, where you'll find Nani Daman Jetty. From there, you can see Moti Daman Fort across the way. Construction of this fort began in 1613 by the Portuguese and took 50 years to complete in 1672. It is smaller compared to Moti Daman Fort.

7. Quarry Lake

This hidden gem is one of the most beautiful spots in Daman. Due to its secluded nature, it's not overly crowded. The water's blue hue is attributed to limestone mining in the area, resulting in exceptionally clear water. However, swimming is strongly discouraged due to its depth and the potential harm it poses to the skin. The location is renowned for photo shoots.

Please let me know which union territory you'd like me to cover next.
